At 3 months old, tomorrow will mark Breken’s official graduation from newborn to infant status. He's still got a lot to learn (obviously!), but one thing he definitely realizes now is there's more to life than eating, sleeping, and pooping! I think his favorite thing right now is discovering his fists and thumbs. He loves to try to shove his entire fist in his mouth and after gagging himself a couple times he realizes just the thumb fits best. He also loves to watch his feet when they move---amazing how that happens! Am I controlling those feet??? Breken is staying awake a lot more and occasionally sleeping longer too! Yay for Mommy and Daddy who don’t have to get up quite so many times during the night. He brings a smile to our faces each time he smiles, giggles at us, or blows raspberries. He LOVES to stand up and look around the room, and just needs a little hand of stabilization from us. His personality is just budding—be it serious, silly, persnickety, determined, or happy, we just adore him! He’s our Christmas gift to each other!
Years ago (before I can recall), my Grandma Sorby counter-cross-stitched a wall hanging advent calendar for me with little red rings stitched by a number representing each day of the month of December. My parents tied little (sometimes not so little) gifts to it, and I sat on my Dads lap and opened one gift each of the nights of December until Christmas Eve. It is such a special memory, not because of the gifts, but for the time I spent sitting on Dads lap, and the ongoing fun we had. Dad always joked that the one who put the wrapping paper in the fireplace would get to open the following evening’s gift. I was always very diligent about getting the paper cleaned up! This year, for Breken, I used the same advent calendar and tied a Christmas poem or song to read or sing to him every night before bed. I treasure each evening, sharing the meaning of Christmas and giving with our son, and look forward to the years he will sit upon his Daddy’s knee to open his very own advent gifts.
Wishing you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Sam! I love that you are continuing family traditions! I am trying to create some with Melanie and it only gets better and better!
